Financial Lives 2024 survey

Find out more about the Financial Lives 2024 survey, including our reports and available data.

A total of 17,950 respondents completed our 2024 survey. Fieldwork for the Financial Lives 2024 survey took place between 5 February 2024 and 16 June 2024, with more (just under 45%) completing the survey in May 2024 than in any other month. FLS 2024 provides a fourth snapshot of consumers’ attitudes and financial circumstances since our first survey in 2017, allowing us to compare how UK adults’ product holdings, finances and experiences have changed over this seven-year period.

Reports

We have adopted a new reporting approach this year, featuring a shorter, more focused main report, alongside an expanded set of slide-based reports focusing on specific retail sectors and subject areas.

2024 main report: Key findings from the FCA's Financial Lives May 2024 survey

The 2024 main report details cross-sector findings from the Financial Lives 2024 survey, comparing the 2024 findings with results from the Financial Lives surveys conducted in 2022, 2020 and 2017.

2024 data tables

The multi-volume data tables from our 2024 survey provide access to the results of almost all the survey questions and to different ways in which the data can be explored. The data tables provide access to more cuts of the data than covered in our reports.

To guide you through the various volumes of data tables we have published a data tables user guide[20].

Annex A to the Financial Lives 2024 main report

We cover just over 100 different products or groups of products in the survey. Annex A (Product holdings)[39] includes a spreadsheet which shows the proportions and numbers of UK adults holding them for 2017, 2020, 2022 and 2024.

Financial Lives 2024-2022-2020-2017 tracker data tables

Data from the Financial Lives survey is designed to be trackable to provide evidence of how things are changing from the point of view of the consumer over time. We provide the following 'tracker' data tables to allow comparison between the 4 Financial Lives surveys, for the questions that have been retained across the surveys. For some questions, small changes have been made between surveys, meaning results are not directly comparable – we detail the changes between 2022 and 2024 in the caveats to tracking data tables[40].
